Homelessness in Older Men

Another sample of homeless individuals, coming from the HOPE HOME Study, is a survey of the trends among the homeless. This is a elderly population of a group from Oakland, California. Approximately 1% of the [American] population experiences homelessness…with an estimated 600,000 Americans homeless nightly. This is sample finds that substance use among the homeless is almost universal. With admission rates being as high as ninety two percent. Severity of the addiction was gauged using the ASSIST test.

We know that from the effects of drugs, our judgement is impaired. The ones afflicted do not know the damage they are doing to themselves, and if they do, they don’t care. The issue is why would do ask the question of why they don’t care? Because if you do something in spite of its harm, it is a serious issue. Political activism is the solution.
